BADSEY RANGERS U13 14 CHARLTON ROVERS U13 1 Badsey produced a scintillating start to the new campaign and completely outplayed a team who in previous seasons had run them close. The squad had been strengthened during the summer and new recruits Callum Rennie (left back) Will Gillette (right back) and Sean Brain (striker) all played major parts in a game Badsey dominated throughout. With a strong wind at their backs Badsey were in front within five minutes when Alex Trotman and Adriano Ritchie combined down the left to set up James Schembri who slotted the first. Ritchie provided the pass that saw Schembri net again within a minute. A surging Callum Rennie run nearly produced a third before Trotman got his name on the score sheet after fifteen minutes. Schembri completed his hat trick soon after and Sean Brain provided the pass which saw Schembri net Badseys fifth three minutes later. A clever interplay of passes between Jack Milward and Trotman released Ritchie for number six and a James Schembri solo produced a seventh Badsey goal just before the break. Defenders Nick Remfry, Tom Attwood and Dan Lamb ensured that keeper Louis Sutton was a virtual spectator throughout the half which ended with Ritchie firing just over. A much harder test was expected in the second half but, even with Badsey facing a strong wind they continued to pile on the pressure. David Stanley hit a post after five minutes and Sean Brain fired just over a minute later. Charlton then began to look more threatening and Remfry and Gillette had to break up one promising move before the latter found Brain with a precise through ball. Brain saw Schembri in space. 8 0 Badsey. Charlton netted a consolation midway through the half but Schembri then scored the goal of the game when he picked up the ball twenty five yards out and flicked it over a defenders head before firing, on the volley, into the corner of the net from the edge of the area. Brain then thudded a shot from distance against the bar, but his luck was about to change and, after Ritchie had scored Badseys tenth, he netted a four minute hat trick with assists from Kieran Court, David Stanley and Jack Milward. Keeper Sutton then had to make a couple of sharp saves but David Stanley ensured Badsey did not finish on unlucky thirteen when he netted from the spot after being up-ended following a surging run. Badsey appear to have more strength in depth this season and, during this game, all sixteen squad members played a part. There is still a long way to go but early signs are very good indeed. Man of the Match. Callum Rennie. Scorers:- James Schembri 7 |
